Comtec has been appointed as Rackstuds’ first ever UK master distributor, offering next day delivery on Rackstuds – a replacement for cage nuts.
Conceptualised by an installer who struggled to install a 15kg computer in a small under-bench rack on his own, Rackstuds are a replacement for cage nuts, used to mount IT, pro A/V, security and telecommunications equipment in 19in racks.
Unlike cage nuts, Rackstuds go in from the front, reportedly simplifying the installation. Rackstuds can be installed in seconds and are designed to be easy to remove and reuse. Further to this, Rackstuds are tool-free and can be tightened sufficiently by hand.
According to the manufacturer, populating a rack with equipment using Rackstuds is ‘much faster and over the course of a rack build, can save installers many hours. A typical network switch can be installed in under 55 seconds’.
Designed for mounting equipment up to 20kg (44lbs) with a safety factor of three, 60kgs (132lbs), the target shear strength for one stud was exceeded with independent tests yielding the following results:
Push In = 46kgs (101lbs)
Pull Out = 92kgs (202lbs)
Shear = 156kgs (343lbs)
Rackstuds are made from a metal replacement engineered plastic, aiming to pose no electrical threat to installers or equipment. They are colour coded too, so if one is dropped they are easy to find and being plastic, they won’t scratch equipment.
Rackstuds are designed to fit EIA square punched vertical rails, up to 2.2mm thick (RSL100/796578) and for rails above 2.2mm (RSL100-2.7/796583).
Rackstuds can be purchased online at www.comtecdirect.co.uk. For telephone orders or to enquire about becoming an authorised UK reseller call Comtec on 01480 415400.
