Opening in 1889, London’s Savoy Hotel was the first to introduce electric lights throughout the building.

Fast forward to 2015, and its Gordon Ramsay Michelin Star rated restaurant, Savoy Grill required a powerful replacement system to drive the many channels of lighting, both in the main restaurant and in the private dining room.

The main restaurant features four chandeliers containing 40 bulbs each.

Also featured are 40 wall-lights, LED cove lights, table lamps, waiter-stations, bar illumination and lighting of the premium wine display cupboard.

In the private dining room, dimming of incandescent and LED strips were required, taking advantage of HDL DMX capabilities.

The client request was to easily change between four desired scenes, create the perfect atmosphere for the guests, be technically capable, be easily maintained and receive an excellent service.

The main challenge for installer, Check Electrical was to learn how the restaurant operates and provide exactly what the customer wanted.

For example, when changing between lunch scene, pre-theatre scene and dinner scene, the dimming should happen over 30 seconds, so that the customer does not notice the change.

Also, during summer and winter, the desired scene level is different due to the outside light change in the evening.

The products chosen were HDL dimmers, universal dimmers, DMX controllers, and DLP panels in black and chrome, to match the decor.
